Welcome to the Paremata Plimmerton Rugby Football Club’s website.
We update information and have events coming up posted on here in our calendar which will be put together soon.
A little bit of history first:
The Plimmerton Rugby Club was formed in 1932. As they had no Rugby field they chopped out some rushes on the south end of the Taupo Swamp. (This is now the soccer field on the Plimmerton Domain).
The Paremata Rugby Club was formed and developed their first field on the Ngatitoa Domain in 1946, just as the Army Camp that was there, during the Second World War, was pulled down.
The first field was developed on the site of the present No. 3 field because it was the best flat area available, even though the gun pads (which were made of concrete) had to be “turfed” over.
When permission was obtained from the Ngatitoa Domain Board the Paremata Rugby Club then chose a new site and constructed their present No. 1 field. All this work was done by members and supporters. Not at any stage did the Club obtain moneys from any Local Bodies or such.
On March 15th 1951 a delegation from the Plimmerton Football Club was admitted to a meeting of the Paremata Football Club and expressed their views on why our two Clubs should amalgamate and play under the name of either “Taupo or Ngatitoa”. The Paremata Club wished to keep their name.
In 1959, the two Clubs (Paremata and Plimmerton) combined and made their headquarters on the Ngatitoa Domain, (relinquishing the Plimmerton Field) and have remained there until the present time.
The club has a long and proud history, and celebrated its 50th jubilee in 2009. Over its 51 years, the club has had teams playing at the highest level in the Wellington competition and has earned a reputation for producing players of high calibre. The club has always had a very popular junior section and will again field approximately 400 young players this year.
Today:
Our Clubrooms and home grounds are situated at Ngatitoa Domain, off State Highway One, Paremata, consisting of three playing fields and floodlit training areas. Our club relies on the support of the local community and we have our 1st XV group of sponsors. Without them, it would be difficult to survive. so please click this rolling marquee to support our sponsors and to see how you too can become part of our 1st XV
This year the club has six senior teams plus the Golden Oldies; Senior 1, Senior 3, Under 85kg (80/80), Colts (Under 21), Senior Reserves and Presidents (over 30s) teams. Training normally consists of two nights, Tuesday and Thursday, with pre-season fitness training at the club from mid January each year. The Reserves and Presidents’ teams train on Wednesdays at 6:30pm. PPRFC has always enjoyed a flourishing junior section with approximately 22 teams and 400 players this year for ages 4-13.
The Future:
Extensive refurbishment of the club rooms was undertaken last year and the new committee hopes to build on this further with a new 5 year strategic plan.
The club is an integral part of the community and is very appreciative of the support it receives from players, and sponsors. In turn, it strives to produce young sportspeople who we can all be proud of and who will contribute positively to our community.
